Five Ways To My Happy

I am 37 and I don’t feel like this is old in any way. However, all of my face products are now labeled anti-aging. And a few weeks ago? I had to get reading glasses. READING GLASSES. I am 37 and it dawned on me that I was slowly going blind when I was standing in a store trying to read the list of ingredients on the back of my anti-aging product and holding the container out with my arm extended and squinting JUST LIKE MY MOTHER. In my defense, the font on the container was negative 6 and in the containers defense, HAHA YOU BE OLD.

I really, really like being in my thirties, but dammit if I’m hurtling faster than a speeding bullet towards my forties and there isn’t a thing I can do about it. Trust me, I’m not going down with out a fight. Just me and my two fists clutching my reading glasses and my face cream. I think Tina Fey probably offers up my most favorite advice regarding aging of all times in her book Bossypants.

Tina Fey quote

While the creams might help a bit, I believe that it helps to have a positive attitude towards aging. I feel like at any age, it is important to be happy. I know you can’t be happy 24/7, but being happier for me equals feeling good and looking good. And a little anti-aging concealer never hurt either. Here are five ways I make sure I am taking care of myself to guarantee I will live long enough to annoy my children even more in the future.

Five Ways To My Happy

1. Exercise. I know, so predictable, but I work from home and sit and sit and sit some more. Getting up and going for a hike is something I try to do at least four times a week and if I don’t exercise, I feel absolutely off kilter.

This is a big part of my second way to my happy.

2. Nature. I make a point to take my hikes during the magic hour: sunset. I am such a sucker for a sunset and that gorgeous light and I’ve got the photo collage to prove it.

3. Water. I am obsessed with my water filter pitcher. I drink a gallon of water a day because dehydration can make your skin look more dry and wrinkled and I am not interested in that, no thank you. Drinking an adequate amount of water daily is important for overall good health because water aids in digestion, circulation, and absorption. Plus, I need something to wash down #4.

4. Treat yourself. I will never, ever deny myself dessert of any kind. Ever. Life is too short.

5. Love. Love the ones you’re with. Simple.
