I’ve wanted a wreath for our front door, but I haven’t really found anything that I liked. Or could afford. When we pulled out the Christmas decorations, I noticed that we had a few of these fake, plain wreaths that I inherited from my mother.

Total yawn, right?  I think the wreath is about 15 inches across. I decided I could do something to jazz up the wreath, but that something needed to be free because I wasn’t in the mood to drive to the store.

I decided to make a pinecone wreath.  If there is one thing we have an abundance of, it’s pinecones.

I sent the kids to the backyard with a box and told them to hook me up.  Pretend that this photo isn’t from October and that my son is holding a box instead of trying to peg his sister with nerf darts.  Same diff.

I had no plan, no directions, just a glue gun and a dream.  I started gluing the pinecones on the inside edge of the wreath.  I ran out of pinecones quickly, we filled that box up three times.  I glued, and glued, and glued.  I was like a gigantic pinecone puzzle, you know, if puzzles were sharp and had thorns.

When I was done, it weighted 133 pounds.  I decided to hang it on our the front porch, I wasn’t sure our front door could handle the awesomeness that is this wreath.

To hang it, I used leftover fabric from my stash and I cut one long strip and tied it around the wreath and hid the knot on the back.  I then cut another smaller strip and tied the bow at the top and hung it on a nail.  I also thought it looked too pineconey (technical term), so I put a bird (ornament) on it.

Total cost of this project: free.

Bonus for all your hard work: burns and splinters.  Worth it.
