31 Days: The Dish Drainer

The last few homes we have lived in have had the sink with the dumb divider down the middle. We have always had a dishwasher, but some things get washed by hand.  I have always kept a metal dish drainer that is much too small in one side because I don’t care for counter top clutter.

And I clearly adhere very strictly to this rule.

Try not to be too jealous of my backsplash, it’s custom to look like just like drywall, very one of a kind.  And the thing that looks like an upside down strawberry is Troy’s volcano.

Jeff is on vacation next month and hopefully the lower half of the kitchen and the backsplash will be completed.  The new sink we will install (we meaning Jeff) is a single bowl, so I decided to come up with a solution for the hand washed dishes now because this dish draining situation has only been bothering me for TEN years.

I stopped into the Container Store and shelled out $20 for a bamboo drying rack and $5 for a dish drying mat.

I guess I could have just picked up the drying mat, but I think this will make the dish clutter a bit more stylish.  I guess while the rack isn’t in use, I could store it under the sink.  This will never, ever happen, but a girl can dream.

For 31 days, I’m tackling the Hot Mess.  Read all about it here.

Think of all the fun you can have with that thing. You can hang the kid’s art projects off of it. You could totally dry socks there. Or you can use it for dishes. Whatever. I would say no matter how you fall on this it will be money well spent! ;)

Heh. You just solved my problem when I move. YAY YOU!

In a few weeks, after this insanity of a move is over…lunch? IKEA? Container Store? Something.

“Try not to be too jealous of my backsplash, it’s custom to look just like drywall, very one of a kind.” hilarious.

the bamboo drying racks are the only way to go. especially since you’re asian.

Nice! I can’t stand dirty dishes in the sink . There is nothing worse than thinking I’m going to be responsible and rinse out a dish right after I use it, then walking over to the sink and finding it full of dirty dishes. Maybe if we had a bamboo drying rack, he’d be more inclined… I can dream, right?

The fact that you went to The Container Store and only came out with two items is the most impressive part!

You can always put the drying rack under the sink when you have fancy dinner parties.

Your drywall is so much prettier than my drywall! I pulled down half the backsplash in our kitchen over the weekend, and it’s like a “vintage” yellow color….

The house was built in 97, I’m confused by the yellowy drywall.
