31 Days: The Bedroom
While I was tidying up my nightstand, I noticed that the top of Jeff’s dresser and the corner with the chair could use some attention. Please note that Jeff is like the neatest person ever and I’m pretty sure Jeff owns two things in this photo: the cologne and the one pair of sunglasses on top of my jewelry box. A few of his uniforms are on the back of the chair, but I did that because I was too lazy to walk the 13 steps to the closet and find hangers.
I started by clearing off the dresser and wondered why I am always surprised that we have dust.
I put everything away, dusted, and I dragged the plant stand that was sitting next to the chair downstairs so I can list it on Craigslist. I’ve never liked it and we have had it for years, it was in our bathroom at our first house and I didn’t really like it then either. I’m also going to sell the bird prints that have been living in the chair for a good month.
This was a very easy project, I think taking the photos took longer than actually cleaning this side of my bedroom. I’m not sure why it is so hard for me to keep things tidy, but I’m really going to try because the after is so much more calm and lot less dusty.
One of my main goals this month was to finally clean and organize my office, but I’m positive I’m not going to make it in there. I’m thinking it might take a more than a few days and I just don’t think I can muster up the strength at this point. I probably should have started in there, but that’s ok, that’s how hindsight works, I guess. Perhaps when the 31 days are over, I can tackle one project a week, like Jules. My office is a disaster, it’s probably worse than when I started cleaning at the beginning of the month, but I as I type this from my $24.99 chair from Goodwill in my clean bedroom with the organized nightstand, I am okay with that. I might not be able to actually work in my office, but I’m getting there and that’s called progress.
P.S. My closet needs to be cleaned.
For 31 days, I’m tackling the Hot Mess. Read all about it here.

Looks great! First of all, I clicked on this thru FB and I swear it was a gif- I thought I saw something moving in the photo. Do you have a ghost? Also, one thing I love about having just moved is that everything is still pretty tidy. I am doing my best to keep it that way!

I want to come do your closet!!! Mine has a painting and a mirror on the walls. Cleaning closets is one of my favorite things, though there are ALWAYS more things to toss. Congrats on your month of hot messes. Everytime I open a drawer or door and am disgusted by what I see, I say out loud, “HOT MESS” and figure it couldn’t take that long to fix it! Thanks
Jennifer
I have that same squirrel. It has other woodland friends. They hang on my Christmas tree. I thought you should know:)

I like that chair, it’s nice!! I’d like a chair like that in our bedroom since we finally moved the couch back to the living room where it belongs.

Have you noticed a sense of peace when things are tidy? I have, and that’s one of the only reasons I keep doing this week after week! I have this idea of a calm, peaceful home where I’m not checking 12 drawers to find a stinking pen.

What happened to the hearts on the mirror?
Your new, clean dresser looks amazing. Mine has so much crap on it, there is not room to put anything else on it. Except dust. Dust always finds room.

That plant stand is adorable, keep it! Get rid of the chair. Anytime I had a chair in my bedroom, all the clothing ended up on it.

Looks good! Seriously, it just feels so much more calm and peaceful to have a tidy house, but hell if I can get myself to make it that way… Or stay that way longer than 24 hours (side eye to the hubs and toddler).
