Round And Round

I walk down the hall trying to remember when I last cleaned the bathrooms. I gather loads of laundry and place them next to the washer. I go into the kitchen and feel the crunchy reminder under my feet that I have to sweep the floors. I unload the dishwasher (or BISCH-WADDER if you are two) and hear you run into the room, looking for me. I don’t want to play, not right now. I have too much to do and not enough time to do it. You walk away, I notice you are holding part of the new toy Dad bought you.

I couldn’t find the instructions, so you wait. As I attempt to put the track together, I think of sneaking off to my chores once you are settled. You patiently sit right beside me as I assemble the fun and when I lock the last piece into place, 26 minutes later, you cheer and clap and give me knuckles.

So we play.

And it was more than enough.

I love this. I have been trying so hard to take a step away from chores and just be mom.
Last night when the husband got home the house was a bomb. You know what, he didn't even care so why does it bother me so much?

    That was wonderful.

    He's wearing a cape? LOVE!

I so wish I had my blog with my son was little…

    loved this.

This reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon where Calvin wanted his father to come play in the snow with him, but he was too busy. Calvin went out anyway, and as his father watched him walk away, he looked down at his work. The last frame is the two of them playing in the snow and having the time of their lives.

    In other words, very sweet.

Is Troy moving that train with his mind?

That last shot is absolutely precious.

    Dear Troy,

    Can I borrow your cape?

    sweet, so sweet.

Makes me think of my boys and how much I love 'em!

p.s. we just built a "new" track this morning… :)

Great Choice! Toilets will always be dirty, and there will always be chores, but your son won't always be two :-)

    I love the pics!

Nothing beats spending time with a cutie in a cape :)

    Best. Post. Ever.

yes, they speak to our hearts, don't they? and somehow our priorities fall into line, even if we think we need to be "getting stuff done".

oh, and a little tip for you, as your train set expands (and believe me, it will)… take a photo of the layout once it's all put together how he likes it. it will make recreating it, once it comes undone for the 1,000th time, MUCH easier.

*tears up* my son used to LOVE Thomas the train. he got his first track for his 3rd birthday, and never stopped since. i don't have a box big enough to put his collection in together… which is why it is all packaged up in two huge rubbermaid boxes rather than just one. he's 7, almost 8, and too big for Thomas now. i miss my little boy….

since I work out of the home I *try* to put all of the chores off til teh boys are in bed and just be with them for the few hours we get together each evening. It's never easy – but you know what?
they're only little once…so sad to know it's so true.

Yeah, that Bitch Wadder isn't going anywhere.

    Love.

The eyes on that little man just break and warm my heart.

What a sweet little distraction. Who would clean a toilet when they could play trains instead?

We just got done playing with Thomas. I think I love it just as much as my two year old.

    What a doll!!!!

Da hubbster is a neat freak and since the introduction of me becoming a stay at home mom I don't have a showcase home anymore. What I do have are very happy children and when da hubbster complains I tell him "If this house looked spotless then I wouldn't be doing my JOB."

    Great post!

How cool we are both in Colorado and in the same project! My son has the same Carter's shirt with the guitars! I love the cape picture, and my son LOVES Thomas!
