Caramelization Is The New Black
Let me just start by saying thank you for your supporting comments regarding my below average baking skillz. The pie doesn’t look that bad in the photograph from yesterday’s post, but y’all, I ripped all the black bits off and there was a lot. Please note the pie does not have a crust in the photograph because it was burned.

I did enjoy the suggestion that the pie was “caramelized”. That is what I now call every bagel/pie/garlic bread/english muffin that I destroy with the “broil” (caramelization) feature on my oven.
In all honesty, I pushed aside my hatred towards the burned parts and tried the pie and I’m here to tell you, it’s delicious. What’s that? You say you want to make a tasty, caramelized sour cream pie too? Well, here you go.
Sour Cream Apple Pie (recipe jacked from my mother’s Gooseberry Patch cookbook. Seriously.)
-9 inch pie crust, unbaked (my mother made me one, like I can make a pie crust)
-2 c. Rome apples, cored, peeled and chopped (I couldn’t find Rome apples, so I used red ones that were on sale)
-1/3 c. plus 2 T. all-purpose flour, divided (make sure you divide it, I did not)
-1/2 c. plus 1/3 c. sugar, divided
-1/4 t. salt
-1 c. sour cream
-1 egg beaten
-1 and 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
-1/2 tsp. cinnamon
-1/4 cup butter
Place the pie crust in pie pan; add apples. I think I used like four. Combine 2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 cup sugar and salt in separate bowl; add sour cream, egg and vanilla. Beat until smooth; pour over apples. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Combine cinnamon, butter, remaining flour and sugar and sprinkle on top of pie. Bake at 400 degrees an additional 10 minutes.
Helpful hints: Do not turn your oven to broil and text on your phone. Your pie will become caramelized.
This video* below has absolutely nothing to do with pie, but it does feature 12 fabulous dancing men and I bet they like pie.
Now if you excuse me, I’m off to teach Jeff, Zoe and Troy this dance. I just know Troy would nail it.
*Big ups to Petunia Face for bringing the awesomeness of the video into my life.

OMG you ruined a perfectly good dessert by adding fruit to it.
Geeze Zak. Duh.

I think if you drizzled (read: drenched) the pie with warm nutella and then served it with french vanilla ice cream it would be delicious. OHMYGODIWANTSOMERIGHTNOW.
Something Happened Somewhere Turning
Mmmmmm……Ice cream.

i think the pie looks better than anything i could do. And how funny we posted out dessert mishaps on the same day!

You LIKED my post! (I said it was carmelized, not burnt). Happy dance being done here.
I received that video last year from my granddaughters' guncles – loved it then; still do.
Gonna try to make your pie this weekend (I don't bake either, but I can cook the hell out of anything savory)

Harbormom-Yes, I LOVED your comment! I found it very inspirational. Burning food is so 2008.

I heart your gays.
Also, I have done this to a pie. Every time, I'm like, "this broiler thing really WORKS." Like I didn't believe that it would…

If Troy is going to dominate this dance, I really hope he still has a blue mustache.
